How to Add Contacts To Gmail: Contacts Import Made Simple

Gmail is, in general, easy to use. However, creating and managing contacts can be quite confusing, especially for those who thought their contacts were stored in the Gmail app/desktop pages.

This guide will help you import contacts to Gmail from a single contact to important 1000s.

Many people assume that Gmail contacts stored in Gmail are true.

Google Contacts is an app that allows you to contact people, in the same way as Google Apps for scheduling, documents and spreadsheets.

While you can see your contacts within the Gmail draft window you cannot manage or create them from Gmail.

This can be done in Google Contacts. You can access it by going to contacts.google.com, or clicking on the "Google Apps” icon (9 dots in a 3-X3 grid) at your Gmail home screen.

Add a Single Contact

  • Open Google Contacts.

  • Click "Create Contact"

  • Fill in the appropriate information for this person/organization by clicking "Save"

You Can Create Contacts With Frequently Used Emails

Google/Gmail keeps contact information of people and organizations that you communicate regularly with, even though you haven’t created one.

They can be found under the "Frequently Contacted” tab in Google Contacts.

Move your cursor over the contact and the "Add To Contacts" icon will appear to the right. Clicking on it will instantly add them as a Contact:

How To Create Contacts On A Smartphone (IOS and Android)

  • Android/Google Phones: Use the default contacts app. It works with your Google Contacts app so you don’t have to connect it (unless you were not signed in when your phone was first purchased).

  • Google Contacts on an iPhone: The App Store does not have a dedicated app. Sign in to Google Account using your mobile browser. You can manage your contacts this way just like you would on a computer.

How To Import Contacts Into Gmail

What could be better than creating contact one at a while and filling in data fields repeatedly?

Importing hundreds and thousands of contacts at once, automatically filling out names. Email addresses, phone numbers, etc.

It is possible using two boring file types, CSV (Comma Separated Values), and VCF/vCard.

CSVs are a variant on spreadsheets and can be used to store and transfer contact information.

VCF files on the other hand are digital business cards. In fact, they are called vCards (short for "virtual cards").

You don't necessarily need to know everything about them, but it is not necessary to have a good understanding of them.

How To Transfer Contacts From CSV Files and VCF Files

Importing contacts from a CSV/VCF file is simple and straightforward.

1. Google Contacts

2. Click "Import" on the side menu (left-hand side of screen):

You can also choose whether to import your contacts directly into an already-created email group (or create one entirely new):

This is useful for organization but is not essential. You can also do it later.

3. Select a.csv and.vcf file on your computer.

4. To finish the process, click on "Import"

Your contacts will appear in the main "Contacts tab" as well as a label named after the date they were imported.

Finally, you can also undo contacts that have been imported incorrectly.

You can edit your Gmail contacts or delete them if there are data fields that do not look right.

How to Export Contacts From Outlook and iOS

How to Export Outlook Contacts for Use With Gmail

Google, Apple and Microsoft did not have cross-compatibility in the past with their address book. You would need to create CSV files with the right type and encoding in order to import contacts into Gmail using Outlook.

Gmail would not be able to recognize a CSV file you created in haste. It would also make it difficult for your contacts to access the file.

Even though there may still be some issues, it's much easier to export important contacts from different email clients.

Simply create a CSV and download it. Then import it into Gmail.

Here's how you do it:

1. Open Outlook.

2. Open your contacts (accessible via the left side menu).

3. Click the "Manage" button in the top-right corner of your screen. Then click "Export".

Your contacts will be downloaded automatically to your computer as CSV.

All you need to do now is to import them into Google Contacts following the above procedure.

How to Export Contacts to iOS for Use in Gmail

You aren't the only person who loves Apple products and uses Google Accounts. Apple and Google are, in fact, the most popular companies worldwide for mobile phones, and email/documents applications.

Contacts are where Apple devices can't be used with Google accounts. The iOS version of Google Contacts doesn't have an app. This means that you can't access your Google contacts via your iPhone.

The fact that your iPhone cannot export contacts means that you will need to use your computer.

Follow these steps to export iPhone contacts for use with your Google account.

It is important to ensure your contacts are synchronized with iCloud before exporting them. The steps below assume you've already done so. Click here for more information.

1. Log in to icloud.com using Apple ID

2. Select "Contacts" on your iCloud home screen.

3. To select all, click on the "Settings", icon located at the bottom.

You can also click on contact photos to individually select contacts.

4. Next, click on the "Settings", then click on "Export VCard".

All your iOS contacts can be downloaded to your computer as an.vcf file. These files can be used with Google Contacts.
